Arthur Defever (1918 -2018) was renowned for his designs of sturdy, sea-kindly, fuel efficient trawlers. The vessels were turned out by a variety of yards and remain in high demand. Regardless of individual manufacturer they are so well designed that everyone refers to them as a “Defever”. The Defever 49 might be the most widely recognized hull in this series, produced with minor variations for beginning in the 1970’s and continuing on for about forty years.
